THE MODERN KURTA
Fashion Blogger and Street Style Lover, Jatin Jay of The Style Doodler
Denim. Aside from jeans, anything made in this hard wearing fabric was pretty much the definition of passé until very recently. From denim shirts to the classic denim jacket, which we all love to the core and wear it in any season whatsoever, we have seen it all. From light to dark washes, trim to oversize fits, 1990s distressed to sophisticated selvedge, denim isn’t just a byword for jeans this season. When Mr Button announced there SS’16 collection, they re-defined the two most prominent things which you will find in every guys wardrobe in India. yes I am talking about the evergreen denim and the traditional favorite of all, Kurta. When I laid my eyes on this super smart piece of fashion, I just wanted it to hang in my closet.
Let’s take a look back and go to our dad’s wardrobe, we will surely see these two items there. A kurta was and is still an Indian traditional piece, but we all have worn it in different ways we can think of. With our rugged jeans to the churidars and mixing it up with those sneakers, yeah we have done it all. And when Mr Button thought of redefining the kurta, they made sure it’s edgy yet have the simplicity and classic touch of the old style. This Denim Kurta is definitely one of the most innovative designs by my favorite brand and I just couldn’t resist trying it out. So here is the stylish Denim Kurta and have a look how I styled it.
The cut of the hem, a little short in front and a little longer in back is a smart take on the longline tees which you have been seeing all over. The details makes this Kurta special. The leather stripes on the collar and use of zippers on the side, definitely makes it stand out from the other kurtas which we have been seeing and that’s the reason I have been calling it a Modern Kurta.
The first thing in mind when it comes to pairing it with something is a regular denim or churidaar for an Indian look. But i chose the fitted white trousers by Mr Button which made the whole look classy yet edgy at the same time. White trousers have not been everyone’s best friend but we have seen the return of white denims in the market and since then everyone is sporting it. The white trousers similarly is making its way back and have been seen worn by celebrities and fashionistas. The major fashion tip here is to make sure the trousers fit you. Due to the fact that they are a spring/summer item, it’s even more important that they are slim through the leg and hemmed with very little break. A comfort or loose fit will just look sloppy here, especially if you pair them with loafers/drivers or go sockless.
As always, the accessories section is my favorite. I love to accessorise the look with my favorite pieces. In this look I made sure that everything was dark and metal. I chose the croc leather loafers with some metal accessories. From my wristband to the sunglass and an additional style touch of the brooch used on the arm, it was all chrome. Metal is surely one of the major finishes you will see in the accessories section and Chrome and Gold is my favorite.
The touch of gold comes from the watch and the brooch. The guess blue and gold combination looks perfect with this attire. Also, a little bit of experiment with the brooch by wearing it on the sleeve and not on chest. I was carrying my brown leather pouch with this look to keep my wallet, ipad and other things handy. It’s sleek, smart and goes well with any outfit.
To keep the outfit classic, keep the bottom sleek and slim. And same goes for the choice of shoes. If you want to wear this kurta casually, try it with a dark denim to make it a monochrome look and throe in some sneakers with classic Ray bans. Just perfect for a sunny day out.
So here is my favorite piece from Mr Button’s SS’16 collection styled the way I wore it at Lakme fashion Week. It’s weekend so try some whites and it will definitely make your weekend more sunny. Till then, Stay Stylish as always
