India’s way to Glory at the Rio 2016 Olympics
Keep an eye as they strike for top honour.
After a spate of dope scandals and some final shifts in names of the qualifiers, India dispatches its biggest ever contingent for this year’s Olympics. Around 120 athletes in different categories of events will battle out with one of the best in the World for the top honour. India has a strong chance at Rio with some top names who are sure to bring glory to the country.
Here we list top 5 names who we think are bound to get the podium positions.
1) Vikas Krishan, Boxing- Middleweight.
This 24 years old chap is considered to be the dark horse at this event. Having accolades like third position at Asian games 2014 and a silver at Asian boxing championship, Vikas is one name to watch out. The road ahead for him will be tricky as the category has big names like Arlen Lopez Cardona (Cuba) and Michael O’Reilly (Ireland) but this Indian, we have full faith on.
2) Yogeshwar Dutt- Wrestling.
One of the top wrestlers in the world, Dutt is a confirmed podium contender unless a huge outset takes place. The London bronze medal winner is also a gold winner both at Commonwealth and Asian games. All power to the international icon for his sport.
3) Jitu Rai- 50m and 10m air pistol.
India’s sure shot gold contender is on a non- parallel success spree with gold hat tricks at all the major events of the game. He is the best bet in this event and the punters have put him ahead of top names. May the hawk eye be with him.
4) Saina Nehwal- Badminton.
This will be her third appearance at the Olympics and she is eyeing gold this time. The London bronze winner is one of the best in the world and her coach and the country is waiting for the triumphant news. Go go girl.
5) Dipa Karmakar- Gymnastics.
One girl everyone is talking about right now is her. She created history and is looking very good at a sport which was never an Indian friendly event. The Tripura girl is also a bronze medallist at the Asian gymnastics championship and is India’s pride at this event which has been dominated by other countries for long. Our best for this 22 year old athlete.
