6 Music Videos to Soak Up Some Style Inspiration

Coz music and style are inseparable!

outside music

I have always drawn huge inspiration from music. An intrinsic part of every collection I do,derives a clear or underlying inspiration from music and the videos. The sense of envisaging a collection and the core part is pulled from an artist or a song which would be playing on loop. Sometimes a track is favoured for the single reason that it injects a sense of style which then becomes the framework of a creation. Music is always such a big influence on each aspect of our lives and it’s overwhelming power of inspiring is non-deniable. Hereby, are 6 of my favourites which never fail to instigate the creative bug or the sheer admiration for the clothes, music or the cinematography in their videos. They have been pulled out from different times but the lyrical and the style statement is still very much valid.

  1. Fuckin problems – A$AP Rocky feat. Drake, 2 Chainz and Kendrick Lamar

Style god A$AP Rocky recruited one hell of a lineup for this global hit and trust me this is one stylish creation. The everything all black concept with dressing is a no-nonsense and the coats on A$AP and Kendrick are something to steal right away for the chilly times. The Rag & Bone coat on A$AP is cut slim and is a great layering option. The high point of this video is that quilted leather bomber jacket on Drake. He looks fresh AF and I highly recommend you to cop one for light layering option when there is a nip in the air but you don’t want to look like someone who is treating his cold. Can’t say much about the lyrics as they are what they should be when you have a lineup like this, but you will love it. Fuckin problem as A$AP says it all. Very very NSFW.

  1. One for the Road- Arctic Monkeys

Probably the best writers of the modern times, Alex Turner’s Arctic Monkeys never fails to disappoint on the style front. This video features the gang in very slick suits. Look for the ultra-suave patterned blazer with contrast notch lapel on Turner. The very eccentric video is also bang on with it’s black and white storytelling, and of course great lyrics. The girls in the last minute join the style bandwagon with very spiffy bomber jackets worn on sheer negligee. Any more reasons not to watch the video right here?

  1. Hotline Bling- Drake

The current king of rap, Drake, is a cool motherf****r and knows how to break the internet. The video which was trolled across for Drake’s dancing move (not sure about them myself) is a galore of inspiration for your off duty or transitional weather clothing. The world was trolling Drake for his moves but boy, the guy schools us on how to dress when you want to unfurl the inner hip hop style (We all have it!). He deserves top dollars for pulling that roll neck sweater from Acne studios and then that iconic owl hoodie from his own label, OVO. The Timberland boots have been hip hop’s most loved shoes and that Moncler puffer jacket is something we will like to include in our wardrobe. Did I forget to mention the babes in high waisted jeans (you know what I mean, when the girls are in Drake’s video) ready to take your midnight calls.

  1. Blurred lines- Robin Thicke feat. T.I and Pharrell

The most played slash reprimanded slash sexy slash stylish slash sexist video by Robin Thicke has all the ingredients to make it the most controversial video of it’s time. The video was lambasted due to it’s sexist undertone and showing women as objects (read naked with fully dressed men). We love it for many reasons and to start with, check the slick suits of Mr. Thicke and Atlanta rapper, T.I. Robin, keeps it minimal with a classic dark suit, crisp open neck shirt and dark aviators. T.I follows the same track and keeps it dressy in a dark suit/light shirt combo and then goes casual in a dark crewneck and leather jacket. Pharrell is the most adventurous, with a metallic silver track suit, but then changes it to a leather blazer, cropped trousers and a dress shirt. Not to forget the iconic fedora he perches effortlessly on his dome. The video got viral due to inclusion of naked and semi naked girls, one of them goes ahead and becomes one of the supermodels of modern times. Yes, we are talking about super-hot Emily Ratajkowski.

  1. I got the Keys- Dj Khaled feat. Future, Jay-Z and half of the Industry’s best Rappers.

Dj Khaled is an internet sensation with his non-stop Snapchat stories. He brings half of the rap industry in this slick video. Current hip-hop sensation, Future, sings in tandem with legendary Jay-Z in this track which is giving us serious style goals. Take a look at everyone dressed immaculately in dark suites and Khaled does a black on black with finesse. Jay-Z exhibits the classic white shirt and black trouser combo with ever classic wayfarers and we are quick to pick the virtue of this timeless classic. Future is a worldwide style icon and turns up in a top coat with his signature wide brimmed hat. Did we forget to mention that this power look is topped with pristine white Gucci sneakers?

  1. Are you Gonna be my girl- Jet

This song has been playing on each and every music device I have. The devices changed, new artists came in, modern genres were created but I could not forget this song when I needed that extra boost or some instant rush. Australian band, Jet is a talent house and this video is so on point with style and lyrical beauty. The boys are all clad in swish leather jackets and a very cool military inspired pea-coat. The old school feel to it is so evident with flared jeans making such a great impact in this video. The style of the cinematography is cool and the old school charm is not going anywhere from this track.
